Friday, Sept. 16, former Hardin County Justice of the Peace Wilber “Butch” Wayne Cummings died at age 76.
According to his obituary from Broussard’s Mortuary, Cummings served in the United States Army before his judicial career. Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Court Clerk Brandy Hart said Cummings was Justice of the Peace for Precinct 5 in Lumberton for 20 years, the last title he held before retiring in 2014.
Cummings was born to Farris Wells Cummings and Ernest Cummings on Nov. 28, 1939.
He worked as a carpet salesman and then Lumberton municipal judge before running for justice of the peace, according to current Justice of the Peace for Precinct 5 Melissa Minton, who was previously Cummings’ court clerk.
