Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 8:53 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to an aggravated robbery-in-progress at the Dollar General at 7365 Highway 105.

Witnesses reported to officers that two black males entered the store, both brandishing handguns. One suspect stayed by the front door while the second suspect forced the clerk to open the safe at gunpoint, according to the statement, but a witness inside the store subdued the suspect and held him down until police arrived. The other suspect fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.

Daven Mikel Simon, a 20-year-old Beaumont man, was arrested for aggravated robbery. Detectives are following up with leads to identify other suspects involved in
this crime.

Beaumont Police PIO Carol Riley explained that “apprehending suspects in a dangerous situation” is difficult but “it happened and all worked out well, no one else was injured.”

“We have one in custody and we are still investigating that case,” she said.

Anyone with information should call Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477).
