A horse died of gunshot wounds that became infected, Beaumont Animal Services said, and police are searching for the shooter.

A Beaumont Animal Control officer was called to the 1000 block of Pollard Street just off Pine Street on Beaumont’s north side to check on an injured horse Monday, Oct. 24.

The officer found a one-year-old buckskin filly with what appeared to be .22 caliber bullet holes in two places on the right rear buttocks. The complainant told officers that the injury possibly occurred Sunday, Oct. 23.

The horse was loaded on a trailer and transported to have a veterinarian examine its injuries. The vet told investigators the horse’s colon was damaged when it was shot. The horse had a leak in its bowel on right side and was in a lot of pain, and later died from toxic shock.

Beaumont Animal Services is seeking information about the person responsible. If you have information about this or any other crime, contact Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at (409) 833-TIPS or download the new Crime Stoppers.
