A man punched a Beaumont postal carrier in the face and then refused to give a statement, Beaumont Police said.
A U.S. postal carrier called Beaumont Police and reported he had been assaulted while delivering mail near Pittsburg Street and East Lucas Drive, Beaumont Police spokesperson Carol Riley said in a news release.
The postal carrier was in his marked vehicle and stopped at the corner of Lucas Drive and Cleveland Street when the suspect allegedly walked up to his vehicle and punched him once in the face with his fist.
Then the suspect walked away without saying anything, according to the statement the postal carrier made to Beaumont Police. The postal carrier was able to maintain control of his vehicle, and called 911 while following the suspect, Riley said.
Beaumont Police officers arrested Ron Cooper, 30, who did not resist arrest. When officers questioned him, he gave no reason for punching the postal carrier and refused to give officers a statement.
Officers arrested him and booked him into the Jefferson County Jail, where he was charged him with the third-degree felony assault.
The postal carrier is a 42-year veteran employee, Riley said.
