Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School’s Mural Club collaborated with Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital to create a 12-panel mural on Nov. 11 and 12.

The students in the club completed the project in two days, and many gave up their entire weekend to participate.

A dedication of the mural will take place in December.

The murals are on the second floor of the hospital, in between the Intensive Care Unit and Surgery. The panels represent terms submitted by employees of the hospital. The words expressed in art include: listen, faith, family, alive, open arms, engaged, love, calm, hope, anticipate, devoted and compassion.

Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School’s Mural Club has over 60 student members that have created artwork at various locations throughout the Kelly High School campus and at a local rehabilitation facility. The club was formed two years ago after students came to school on a Saturday to paint a mural in an English classroom.

Next, the group is planning to paint a Mardi Gras float and decorate the teachers’ lounge at Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School.

Junior Emily Hale is the Mural Club president, and the club is sponsored by teacher Jerrilynn Miller.
