A two car accident on FM 92 in Tyler County left nine people injured Saturday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The accident happened Saturday, Nov. 26 near County Road 4925 in Fred, Texas DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a news release.
Troopers who responded to the scene reported that a Honda passenger van was going northbound on Farm to Market Road 92 in the early afternoon, followed by a Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Honda passenger van pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway and tried to U-turn for unknown reasons, Davis said. While the van was making the U-turn, the Ford Explorer hit the van’s driver side door.
The driver of the Honda passenger van, Renee Cameron of Colmesneil, 30, was flown by medical helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries, along with her 8-month-old daughter, who has been in a car seat. Her daughter did not appear to have any visible injuries, but first responders took her to the hospital for observation.
Juan Rodriguez, 36, of Silsbee, who was driving the Ford Explorer, was not injured, but his wife, who was a passenger, was flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with serious injuries.
A child in the Ford Explorer was also flown to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston with serious injuries, and two other children were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Three other children were taken to Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont with unknown injuries.
Two of the nine people injured, Renee Cameron and Juan Rodriguez’s wife, were still hospitalized as of Sunday afternoon, Nov. 27, Davis said in a news release emailed on Sunday.
Rodriguez’s wife was in the ICU at Memorial Hermann as of Sunday afternoon, Davis said.
