The Texas Crab Festival is hosting the 18th annual Bolivar Peninsula Christmas Bike Drive.
“The bike drive has put Christmas morning smiles on the faces of local kids for nearly two decades now — kids that might not otherwise have had a very joyful Christmas,” Texas Crab Festival Charities said in a news release. “Thanks to the support of local residents, family, friends and people like you, Texas Crab Festival Charities helps to ensure that every child on Bolivar Peninsula has a Merry Christmas.”
“Fundraising usually starts around October, and we buy the bikes for the local kids the week before Christmas,” Texas Crab Festival chairman and event organizer Tom Osten said. “We maintain a bike fund throughout the year, and anything leftover rolls into the next year.”
TCFC purchases all requested bikes even if the donations fall short, Osten explained. All donations made after Christmas, as well as leftover donations, are used to purchase bikes next Christmas.
Anyone interested in donating can visit the Texas Crab Festival Charities website at www.tcfcharities.org for more information.
