Southeast Texas Hospice encouraged the community to bring an item to stock the office’s shelves for the new year at the organization’s annual Toilet Paper Tea on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Southeast Texas Hospice provides end-of-life services in the Golden Triangle area. The organization held their first Christmas open house after moving into a new 4,500 square-foot office.

“My initial reaction was I’m not going to be able to pay the rent, much less provide toilet paper and lightbulbs,” Executive Director Mary McKenna said.

She invited people to bring those items to keep the organization afloat.

The Toilet Paper Tea nickname stuck over the years. Now the event has become a place for people to gather and network in addition to restocking supplies.
