Port Arthur police officer stabbed at his home just before Christmas

A Port Arthur Police officer answered the front door of his apartment and was stabbed Thursday evening.

Port Arthur Police received a 911 call that at police officer was being assaulted at Willow Lakes Apartments around 6:33 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, according to a news release.

When the Port Arthur police officer opened the door of his apartment, a man confronted him and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife, wounding his hands and upper body. Then the suspect ran away from the scene.

Eyewitnesses described the suspect as a white man, about 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds, wearing a green shirt and black skull cap.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s investigators and federal agencies helped Port Arthur Police Department in following leads on the attack.

Port Arthur Police investigators arrested a 41-year-old man Monday, Dec. 26 and charged him with aggravated assault of a public servant.

A 44-year-old woman was also arrested Tuesday, Dec. 27, and charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and aggravated assault and family violence with a deadly weapon, Port Arthur Police Major John Owens said in a following news release.

The officer who was stabbed is a 9-year veteran of the Port Arthur Police Department.

He was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries, police said.
