Christopher Morgan, 31, of Vidor has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after a fatal auto-pedestrian crash on Concord Road in Orange County on Monday, Dec. 26, according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A blood specimen has been submitted to the crime laboratory and toxicology results are pending, DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in an email Wednesday, Dec. 28. The investigation is still ongoing.
The crash occurred one mile south of Vidor. Morgan was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Concord Road, and the pedestrian,
Shane Harold Rollins, 41, of Vidor, was walking northbound, facing traffic, on the west side of the roadway, according to the initial news release from Texas DPS on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
The pickup truck left the roadway and struck Rollins, then continued into the woods before stopping. Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn pronounced Rollins dead at the scene.
Morgan was taken to Baptist Hospital in Orange with minor injuries and has since been released.
“Troopers are looking into all possible factors that contributed to this fatal crash,” Davis said.
