Annually, the Boy Scouts of America’s Three Rivers Council, the Southeast Texas Food Bank, and GHX Industrial collaborate on the Scouting for Food drive.
A commemoration of that collaborative effort, including a $1,100 check presentation from GHX Industrial as sponsor of the event’s collection bags, was held at GHX Industrial at 3155 West Cardinal Drive on Feb. 22
Boy Scout troops associated with the Three Rivers Council will distribute those collection bags in their neighborhoods around the Southeast Texas region Saturday, Feb. 25. The scouts will return to those neighborhoods Saturday, March 4, to pick up donated food items left in those bags.
The Boy Scouts are soliciting non-perishable items such as canned fruits, vegetables, fish, and meats, as well as items like cereal, pasta, and rice through this door-to-door campaign.
The Scouting for Food campaign operates within a 10-county territory in Southeast Texas for the benefit of the Southeast Texas Food Bank and other local hunger fighting agencies.
“Partnerships like this one with the Boy Scouts and GHX Industrial are indicative of what is great about Southeast Texas,” Southeast Texas Food Bank executive director Dan Maher said. “It’s wonderful to see youth and corporations committing their energies to the issue of hunger.”
“The Scouting for Food drive teaches life lessons, which can challenge the Scouts to continue making a difference in their community as they mature into young adult citizens,” he said. “We are grateful that the Boy Scouts and GHX Industrial both share an understanding of how significant the issue of hunger is in Southeast Texas and are trying to work with us to address it.”
