The Port Arthur woman wanted for stealing a TV from Bridge City Walmart and then hitting a Port Arthur police officer with her car turned herself in Sunday Feb. 26, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Marcus McLellan said in a news release.

Port Arthur Police had been searching for Patrice Young, 37, since Sunday, Feb. 12, when she allegedly stole a flatscreen TV at the Walmart in Bridge City, Port Arthur Police Chief Patrick Melvin said in a press conference on Monday, Feb. 13.

Bridge City Police asked Port Arthur Police for assistance in finding the car involved in the theft at the Walmart.

Port Arthur Police officers found Young at Cedar Ridge Apartments in Port Arthur and confronted her, police said in a news release. Young then allegedly hit an officer with her car and fled the scene.

Young was taken into custody at the Jefferson County Jail at 6:17 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 and she is currently being held on bonds totaling $200,000, since she is charged with assaulting a public servant.

As of March 1, Young was still listed on the Jefferson County Jail inmate roster and had not been released on bond.

The officer who was hit with the car went into surgery the night of Sunday, Feb. 12 and is now out of the hospital and recovering, Port Arthur Police said.
