A train hit a semi stuck while crossing the railroad tracks in Nome early Friday morning.

The accident happened about 5 a.m. Friday, March 24 on Old Nome Road, Texas DPS spokesperson Sergeant Stephanie Davis said in a news release.

State troopers who responded to the scene said that a 2016 Freightliner semi-trailer truck traveling westbound on Highway 90 turned onto Old Nome Road, where the semi became stuck on the tracks, Davis said.

Eyewitnesses passing by told The Examiner that the 18-wheeler was sliced in half by the Union Pacific train. The train was traveling with 133 cars, according to Texas DPS.

The driver, Samuel Web, 51, of Connecticut, and his passenger were able to get out of the semi-trailer truck before train hit the semi, and neither one was hurt, Davis said.
