A motorcyclist died after colliding with a deer near Kirbyville Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 on FM 363 in Jasper County, about 2 miles east of Kirbyville, Texas DPS spokesperson Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a news release.

Texas DPS state troopers who responded to the scene said that a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was going westbound on FM 363 when a deer walked onto the roadway. The driver skidded into the guardrail after impact.

The motorcycle rider, Harvey Youngblood II, 51, of Shepherd, was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial hospital with serious injuries, Davis said.

Youngblood did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead about an hour later at the hospital, she said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Davis said FM 363 was closed for about 30 minutes after the accident.
