Human remains discovered just east of Winnie last December have been identified as a murder victim, Jefferson County Sheriff Capt. Crystal Holmes said in a news release.

A rancher discovered human remains wrapped up in material on his property while repairing a fence near 22000 Sattler Road near the Jefferson and Chambers County line. A pink pair of reading glasses was also found at the scene.

Investigators determined that the victim had been murdered. The victim’s remains were sent to the University of North Texas for analysis.

A DNA profile revealed that the victim is George Arlin Beers, 60, of Houston. Beers’ family reported that he was missing in September 2014. He was last seen on July 3, 2014, near the 610 Loop and Bellaire in Houston.

Holmes said that Jefferson County detectives are working with the Houston Police Department investigators on this case.

Anyone with information about whom Beers may have been with prior to his murder or may have more details on this investigation is asked to call Detective M. Holmes at (409) 835-8411.
