A Beaumont woman was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury Nov. 15 for fraudulent credit card use, according to court documents.
Cynthia Pierce Hunt, 56, is accused of stealing her coworker’s Chase Freedom Visa credit card and using it to make purchases at Walmart and Rue 21 on Dowlen Road on Dec. 16, 2016, according to a probable cause affidavit. The total amount stolen came to over $500 — $410.08 at Walmart and $155.77 at Rue 21, investigators said.
The cardholder discovered her credit card was missing Dec. 17, 2016, and found the unauthorized charges when she checked her online account.
Beaumont police obtained surveillance video from Walmart that shows a woman matching Hunt’s description making a $410.08 purchase at self checkout at noon on Dec. 16.
Hunt was formally charged with credit card fraud, a third-degree felony. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
If convicted, she faces between two and 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
Hunt has a criminal record for writing a bad check in 1982.
