A man from Groves was arrested Wednesday after getting a package containing about 50 total grams of THC.

Investigators with the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force received information that a package of narcotics was being delivered Jan. 10 to a house in the 3100 block of Main Avenue in Groves.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain a search warrant for the package, opened it, and found about 50 grams of THC in different packages, some in “butter” (white jars), “shatter” (brown flat substance), vape sprays and thick liquid in syringes.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a psychotropic cannabinoid and is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis. THC is an illegal substance in the state of Texas.

An undercover deputy posed as a delivery driver and delivered the package to the house on Main Avenue. The man living there met the undercover deputy and took the package inside the house.

Then detectives walked up to the house with a search warrant.

The suspect, Chad Perron, 38, of Groves, looked out the window and saw them coming and ran through the house.

When deputies came into the house, they saw Perron trying to hide the smaller plastic bags that had been inside the package.

Perron had already opened and eaten about half of one of the syringes, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies said.

Perron was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on the charge of possession of a controlled substance with a bond set at $20,000.
