The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Honey Island man who was killed by an apparent lightning strike Tuesday, Feb. 6, Sheriff Mark Davis said in a news release.
Kountze Fire Department and Acadian EMS responded to a location off Starlight Road in Honey Island at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
First responders at the scene discovered the body of Sebastian Ramos, 22, who was unresponsive. Although they performed CPR, Ramos was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was pronounced dead, Davis said.
His father, Raul Ramos, 57, was taken by car to the hospital. He suffered from second degree burns, Davis said.
Investigators found that the father and son were standing close to one another while repairing some cattle fencing near Starlight Road when the lightning strike happened.
